5 tips on motivating your workforce:
1- As a business owner, take a long hard look at yourself. Are you motivated? Do you get up in the morning and look forward to going to work? Is your business your passion? The answer to all these questions should be yes. If you accept that you are in need of motivation then talk to an expert, but it must be someone outside the business.
2- Are your employees motivated? Engage with your employees and establish if they are motivated. What would they like to see happen within the company? More often than not the employees know the right answers to your problems, but were too nervous to speak out.
3- Do you reward your employees for customer service excellence? Do you know what your customers think of your service? If you reward for success then you are likely to get more success.
4-Do you train and develop your employees? This is vital for long term success.
5-Do you know the strengths and weaknesses of your team? Is the team correctly balanced? I suggest you carry out motivational mapping to ensure you have the correct team balance and then participate in team building events.
Are you surprised that the likes of John Lewis and Sports Direct are always doing so well? I’m not. They have continued to invest in their most important asset – employees – through a solid staff engagement and bonus programme. If you motivate your team, you too can maintain, and possibly boost, your profits despite the current climate.
